It's not easy getting pictures of state welcome signs! You never know where they may place them. If we miss one, we have to re-enter the state and try again.

It puts a lot of pressure on the navigator to be ready and get the shot as we drive by at highway speeds.

Some states don't seem to care as much about welcoming visitors. We drove on three different roads trying to find a welcome sign and had to settle for a museum sign instead.

Venus was really nervous about the Canada sign, because we only got one chance. She didn't need to worry, there were numerous signs.

Day Zero

Monday, June 30th Aurora, IL written 7:00 PM

Sitting in Venus' apartment as we are getting Vuela ready for our trip. Jeff and JJ and I played 9 holes of golf at
Deer Run and JJ beat his dad for the first time! Then Venus and Baylee joined us for miniature golf and I watched the
Zooks shoot water at each other on a boat ride. Had some last minute shopping to do and errands to run. Baylee will be
spending the night at Ron and Barb's as Venus, JJ and I plan to leave about 4:00 tomorrow morning. Anticipation is building.

Venus and I spent several hours last night looking at tour books and maps getting a better idea of what we want to see and where we want to stay. Tomorrow's plan is to beat the Chicago rush hour traffic and continue east on I80 to Cleveland, then south and east through Wheeling, WV, on into Pennsylvania, detour briefly at Shanksville for the Flight 93 Memorial, then to Hershey Campground for two nights. For the past year Venus and I have been planning and looking forward to this trip. It's hard to believe the time is almost here at last!
